MINNESOTA UNDER ICE

Part attic diary, part Tiny Love Story

We are collecting the stories of how the presence of ICE has redefined the lives of Minnesotans. Your story is the unwritten history of our state.

The Unwritten History

Minnesota is home to many worlds.

While headlines focus on statistics and policy, we are looking for the personal history happening inside our homes and communities across the state. If you live in Minneapolis—or anywhere from Worthington to Warroad—we want to know how the presence of ICE found its way into your kitchen, your classroom, or your dreams.

Minnesota’s story is told in many languages and across many cultures. From the Red Lake Nation to the vibrant neighborhoods of the West Side and Cedar-Riverside, our history is a tapestry of Hmong, Somali, Latino, and Indigenous voices. Whether you are a farmer, a teacher, a lawyer, or a line cook—we are looking for the stories that reflect the full diversity of our state—because our history is incomplete without yours.

This project is a collective effort to document the reality of life in Minnesota. We believe that the monumental shifts and the "small" ripples are equally vital. The phone call that moved the earth is just as important as the empty chair at the dinner table.

Who should share?

Every perspective
is a piece of the truth.

The Firsthand Account

For the individuals and families whose lives, homes, and futures were reshaped by the presence of ICE.

The Community Witness

For the neighbors, teachers, and coworkers who saw the empty chairs and felt the silence in their streets.

The Moral Reflection

For the veterans, the rural residents, and those who were not directly targeted, but who felt something shift in their understanding of the country they served, trusted, or called home.

The Witness from Afar

For the former residents, the international witnesses, and the family members abroad. Whether you are looking back at the state you once called home or watching our communities from across an ocean — we invite your letters to Minnesota.

A Call to Witness

Your voice is the mortar that holds our history together.
